New website/new blog

With the creation of the new look of our website (www.speeddeluxe.com), we've moved the blog from blogspot to wordpress. All of the old blog posts are now accessible via the website, and all of the new blog posts will only be available on the website. Therefore, we'll be shutting this blog down, but make sure to check out the new format on the website!

Riviera Blue

Color is always the toughest decision on a build, it can either make it or break it and oh boy does Riviera Blue make it!! The pic doesn't do it a lot of justice but just wait until we get this bike out into the sun (when it appears)!

Triumph update

The frame and parts came back from Auto Cycle Powdercoaters in Redbank and they have done an awesome job, probably the best job I've seen to date! The build up has begun and the first job was to put all the wiring back in the frame while it was easy to move around. Keep posted for updates.

MIni buttons

With the Triumph having indicators I needed some way of activating them. Here's the fitting of the mini buttons into the bars, I will detail the wiring in a later post.
Positions marked and punched

Pilot bit should be approximately the size of the tang on the final bit.

Fabrication, done.

Time for strip down, final welding, grinding and sanding.

Triumph Custom Oil Tank

Pattern

I bead rolled the center section

Hammer and dolly time

After hammering, shrinking, stretching and trimming it's time to start welding

Finished and mounted, just need to add the filler neck which is in the post

Bonneville rear lights

The twin rear stop and tail lights will also function as rear indicators, always a good safety option on a bike that will be ridden daily. I found these vintage glass lens lights and went to work.

Frisco Style Bars

I fabricated these frisco style bars for a customers Shovelhead. Looking forward to seeing them fitted when back from the powder coaters.

Bonneville Hard Tail

At the minute we are buying in the hard tails, within the next 6 months I hope to have a frame jig set up and we will then be fabricating them in house, this will avoid potential delays and also allow us to refine the design. Here's a few pics from the installation.

Welding on the seat mounts

Triumph Bonneville Handle Bars

Our customer liked the look of drag bars but wanted to be more comfortable especially since this bike is going to get a lot of daily use, this is what i come up with.

We have the latest issue plus back issues and at $6.95 an issue you can't go wrong!

Next up is the new Man Vs Liver book by Neil Hinson and our friend Paul Friedrich. If you haven't seen and MvL before check them out on most social media sites, the sketch's are hilarious! At $9.99 I challenge you to find a better book for the coffee table!

Bonneville Gas Tank

Surprisingly our customer didn't want to keep the old seagull gas tank so I picked this original slimline tank up on ebay for a reasonable price. As with all 40+ year old parts there is always some sort of a surprise under the paint!

The tank came with the knee pads and badges, badges will be back, pads won't

Surprise! The right hand side of the tank was pretty good.

The long crease was the worst of this side

No prizes for guessing the worst part here

This stud gun spot welds the studs to the tank allowing them to be pulled. I forgot to take a pick with the studs attached.

There's still a little left to do on the large dent but the shape is back.

Triumph Bonneville Project Update

I've been waiting on the hardtail to come in so in the meantime I stripped, and degreased the engine and transmission. Overall the engine was in good condition and although the pistons had seen better days th just may just get away with a hone.  The crank and jugs are now off to the machine shop and the cases, covers and heads will be soda blasted in house ready for the rebuild.

Bonnie engine is alive!

This is a short video clip of the engine running after having the electronic ignition fitted but before the rest of the upgrades. Sorry for the iPhone quality!

Triumph Bonneville Project

This is a new project in the shop that we started on Monday, here's how it looked when we took posession and how it looked after a days work. I also fired the engine up, then added electronic ignition and a battery eliminator. Once this was all tested I made up the wiring harness for the engine, front and rear lights and actual ignition will be finalised next week and added to the harness. The engine will be removed shortly for a complete rebuild.

She's a beauty!!

Here's where it starts

The old safety pin nut, one of my favourites!

The original wiring

Less is definitely more!

The carbs needed some attention!

Battery eliminator, electronic ignition, new coils and new wiring

All the wiring now runs through the frame

Ready for the hard tail
